How do I make a timelapse of my child growing up?

If you have taken photos or videos of your kid in the same place and the same pose then creating a timelapse will be fairly straightforward. Most of us have a jumble of photos taken in different places at different angles and in different lighting conditions. Kidlapse is designed to work with this kind of source material. Pick the best photo you have from each month (it’s fine to skip a month or two if necessary) and upload to Kidlapse. Kidlapse runs facial detection and then rotates and zooms each photo so the eyes line up from frame to frame. Each photo is then cross-faded to create a timelapse video.

Which photos work best with Kidlapse?

As far as possible you want to find photos where your child is looking forwards directly at the camera. It’s also a good idea for their face to take up around half of the frame - if the face is too small it can lose resolution when zoomed and if too large then there is less room to rotate the picture without including the edges of the frame. The months pass quickly in the video so choose the best portrait you have each month and don’t worry too much about the background of each individual photo.

Is there a maximum size for uploads?

Yes, the size limit is 50MB, which should be large enough for most photos. If you need to use a photo that is larger than 50MB please edit locally to reduce the size before uploading.

What is the resolution of the generated timelapse?

Kidlapse generates a 1080x1080 square MP4 video file.

How long will the timelapse video be?

Kidlapse by default adds 29 frames that cross-fade between each photo and the video is rendered at 30 frames per second so you will end up with 12 seconds of video for each year of photos uploaded. You can use the advanced render option to change the number of tween frames.

Can I continue to add photos to my project?

Yes! You can create timelapse videos as often as you like. If a transition doesn’t look good to you then experiment with adding a different picture. After you have captured your child’s growth so far you can come back each month or year to add new photos to a project.

How much does Kidlapse cost?

Kidlapse is $14.95 per project which includes photo storage and video rendering. You would typically have a project per child.
