Kidlapse App

Welcome to kidlapse. The main app page lists all of your kidlapse projects.

To add photos to a project or to create a timelapse movie click Open Project.

Click New Project to start a new project.

Create or Edit Project

Enter a project name (i.e. the name of the child you’re creating a timelapse for) and their birthday (or other start date for the project, in MM/DD/YYYY format). Kidlapse will automatically add months from the birthday / start date until today, and will add additional months as needed while you work on the project.

Delete a Project

Check Confirm that you really want to delete this project and click Delete Project. Deleting a project cannot be undone and will also delete all photos uploaded to the project. Click Cancel to return to the project list.

Edit Years and Start Timelapse

Click Add Photos for each year to start adding photos. This page shows your progress for each year and for the project overall. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a photo for every month, kidlapse will just skip empty months.

Once you have added at least two photos you can click Create Movie below the list of years to start rendering a timelapse. If a timelapse has been created then it will be available to download in the Create Movie section.

Click Advanced Options for more control over the movie. For example you can change the number of generated frames between each photo to make the movie longer or shorter.

If you need to change the project name or start date click the edit link next to the birthday at the top of the page.

Edit Monthly Photos

To add a photo click either drag and drop to the area below the month (dotted rectangle) or click the area to browse for a file to upload.

Kidlapse will attempt to detect faces in the uploaded photo. After upload the selected face is shown with a pink border. For photos where more than one face is detected you can change the selection by clicking any face preview. If kidlapse cannot detect a face click Manual Add Face to select one manually.

If you don't have a photo for a month check the No photo for this month checkbox. This will mark the month complete so you get to 100% progress. It has no impact on the movie - months with no photo will be skipped regardless.

Click Remove Current Photo to delete the uploaded photo and thumbnails for a month.

The previews on this page are low resolution thumbnails of the faces found in each uploaded photo. Kidlapse stores the original full resolution version of each upload which is used when you create a timelapse movie.

For the best results, you should pick photos where your child is looking forward as directly as possible and is not too small or too large in the frame. During rendering kidlapse rotates each photo and zooms in or out as needed so the eyes are aligned between each photo.

Add Face Manually

In most cases Kidlapse will automatically recognize any faces in uploaded photos. Use Add Face to manually tag a face in the event that facial recognition fails.

Kidlapse needs to know where each eye is in the photo. Click the center of each pupil as accurately as possible and then click Save Face (or Cancel to make no changes).

You can click as many times as you need to mark each pupil. It’s easier to do this on a laptop or desktop but you can also tap as accurately as you can on a mobile device. If you need to correct the location you might find it helpful to click a different part of the image to move the eye markers out of the way before trying again.

As you click two eye markers are placed on the photo — small red and green rectangles. It doesn’t matter which color marker is used for each eye, Kidlapse will automatically figure out the left and right eyes when you click Save Face.

Create Timelapse Movie

It can take a few minutes to render a kidlapse movie, especially if you have added a lot of photos to the project. We’ll send you an email when the movie is complete with a link to download it. You can also check the project page — the movie will be available to download below the list of years once rendering is finished.

Kidlapse will only work on one movie at a time for each project. If a render is in progress you’ll see an error on this page. Please wait for the previous movie to complete before starting a new one.

Create Timelapse Movie (Advanced Options)

Advanced options for creating a Kidlpase movie:

Tween Frames: The number of frames that Kidlapse generates between each uploaded photo. The default is 29 which means that each photo is on screen for one second (at 30 frames per second). Set this lower to speed up your movie or higher to slow it down. If set to 0 then no transition frames are generated and Kidlapse will just render each photo in sequence to the movie.

Show Month: Displays the month and year of each photo on the movie. This is useful when working on your movie to easily find and change or remove any photos that don't look right, or where you have selected the wrong face. You probably want to turn it off for the final product.

Advanced options are saved to your project and used even if you click the normal Create Timelapse Movie link. To change options just click the Advanced Options link again.
